The Catholic Church Ran a Child Pornography Ring in Pittsburgh

It’s time to cancel the Catholic Church.

Earlier this week, a two year grand jury investigation in Pennsylvania found that over 300 Catholic priests sexually abused over 1000 children, and leadership within the church made the decision to cover it up and lie about it for decades. And that’s just in Pennsylvania.

The Catholic Church is also directly responsible for the death of one of his sexual abuse victims (more on that later).

The information was obtained largely through documents the church itself kept, recording a detailed history of known sexual perpetrators and child victims.

… Not that this type of situation is new to the Catholic Church, though. I’ve written about this before.

The over 900-page report describes in horrific detail the depths to which the abuse went, saying “this group of priests used whips, violence, and sadism in raping their victims.”

“Priests were raping little boys and girls, and the men of God who were responsible for them not only did nothing; they hid it all. For decades.”

If that’s not enough, one of the incidents in the  report details how a group of Catholic priests in Pittsburgh ran a child pornography ring.

The priests would work together as a team to select a child. As a victim explained in his grand jury testimony:

The men gave a specific gift to children they favored, something they could wear that would mark them as prime targets for abuse. Zirwas “had told me that they, the priests, would give their boys, their altar boys, or their favorite boys these crosses,” George told the grand jury. “So he gave me a big gold cross to wear.”

He remembered the rectory photo session as a degrading experience. “It is still really hard to get it out there that you were in a room when you were 14 or 15 and getting naked pictures taken from priests,” he said.

Other details in the grand jury report discuss how one priest raped five sisters belonging to the same family.

Another priest raped a young boy so violently that the boy had to get treatment for back injuries. As part of his treatment, the child received opioid painkillers, which he eventually became addicted to, and died from.

The Catholic Church literally has blood on their hands.

Keep in mind – this is only the stuff we know about. One can safely assume there are thousands of incidents of sexual abuse at the hands of priests that went unreported or were not documented by the Catholic Church.

Think of these Catholic Priests as cockroaches. For every one that you see, you can bet there are dozens of others that you don’t see. They scatter when you turn on the light, and they will do everything they can to hide the truth from you.

The Catholic Church has a history of covering-up sexual abuse by priests, silencing victims, and simply moving predator priests to new parishes so they can sexually assault a new class of children.

What adds insult to emotional and literally physical injury is the fact that the Vatican continues to cover up the details of what has transpired and continues to not be held accountable for their inaction.

There are documents confirming that the Vatican was notified of the incidents, notified that the priests were being moved to other areas, and there is no indication the Vatican did a god damn thing about it to stop it.

But, if you can look beyond these appalling atrocities, and even beyond the ongoing coverup, it’s a wonder to me that anyone can still call themselves a Christian.

We literally have thousands of examples of people who are supposed to be communicators for God using their position of authority to sexually abuse children for decades.

This isn’t a case of “one bad apple” messing it up for everybody else. The whole damn basket is rotten.

If God is real, why would you want to spend eternity with him when this is how he allows children to be treated?
