Ivanka Trump Says Americans Don’t Want to be Given Jobs With a Living Wage

Ivanka Trump has set social media on absolute fire today.

Why someone with enormous alleged wealth, who literally every sentient creature can easily identify as a direct and perpetual beneficiary of nepotism and favoritism, would deign to pontificate about whether working class people “want to be given something” — like a job with a wage they can feed their kids on — is something someone far smarter than I am will have to explain at some point.

But that’s how Princess von Clownstick set Twitter and Facebook absolutely alight today.

In a Fox News interview, Ivanka — a woman who has had literally every educational and career opportunity handed to her because of who her family is — opened up about Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez absolutely insane belief that if a person works 40 hours a week they should maybe be able to not have to be on government assistance as well in order to feed their kids. Ivanka’s dad has been on an absolute tear lately about the evils of “socialism,” because to his base things like Social Security aren’t an example of a capitalist-socialist hybrid model government program that has been largely very successful in terms of keeping the elderly and very poor from falling into complete, abject poverty.

It’s socialism.

I don’t think most Americans, in their heart, want to be given something. I’ve spent a lot of time traveling around this country over the last 4 years. People want to work for what they get.

So, I think that this idea of a guaranteed minimum is not something most people want. They want the ability to be able to secure a job. They want the ability to live in a country where’s there’s the potential for upward mobility. (Patheos)

I like how she assumes that a guaranteed job is a dead-end job and not an entry-level one.

The impetus for this incredibly disingenuous and laughably self-owning statement was that her daddy’s base is so fired up about AOC. Apparently they’re not willing to address whether our current state of capitalism should address people who are just simply not ever going to join the work force in a way that doesn’t rhyme with, “Let the poor people starve.” So Ivanka gets asked about the Green New Deal because a draft of it contained a proposal to keep those unwilling to work from falling completely through the cracks. Some call that human, others call that “socialism,” and Her Royal Reality TV Star was playing the part, dutifully attacking a straw man of what they think AOC’s policy proposals would be.

The thing is, good people can disagree on political things, and certainly there are level-headed arguments for encouraging those who can be productive to be productive. This isn’t about whether I think a living wage or universal basic income might be good, sound fiscal policies — especially if they phased other, less effective programs. However, the messenger of this new conservative self-made, bootstrap tuggin’ anti-socialism re-brand is insanely comical.

Of all the things for Ivanka to chime in on, someone’s entitlement and/or being given something for nothing is one of the most self-delusional and unaware things she can do. That’d be like her dad doing an interview and saying he doesn’t think people like it when president’s abuse people on Twitter. I could try to find some other cute metaphor for this, but the distillation of the analogy is simple enough — Ivanka is a crazy-huge hypocrite.

Do we really believe, any of us, that Ivanka would have risen to the ranks of the D.C. elite if her dad hadn’t won the presidency? Would her dad have won without the reality TV show he hosted with Ivanka? Would Ivanka have gotten a chance to start a clothing line that ultimately failed with her connections to her father? Perhaps, but I think the preponderance of the evidence, given that she seems to have a genetic predisposition to mismanaging companies she leads, to say I’m skeptical is an understatement the size of a Trump Tower in Moscow.

I’m not sure what Ivanka thought was going to happen, but she clearly does not wade into the comments anywhere online, because she got absolutely brutalized on social media for this lapse in self-awareness.
