How Iron Kills Stars & Forms Black Holes

We all know that we are made of starstuff. Stars had to die in order for us to be able to live. This reaction happens almost immediately after a star tries to form iron, as the process of fusing iron is an endothermic reaction- it requires more energy to fuse than what the reaction itself gives off. The 25 elements on the periodic table preceding iron all have lower atomic mass, and when fused, emit energy in an exothermic reaction.
