Christian pastor, and former member of the Indiana House of Representatives, Don Boys has a message for everyone attacking Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Boys says that according to the Bible: “no scream, no rape.”
In his own words, Boys explains:
Rape is having sex with a woman while she screams for help. No scream, no rape according to Deuteronomy 22:23-24. Ford says Kavanaugh held his hand over her mouth so did she scream for help when his hand was elsewhere? After all, it was in a bedroom of a house; surely, one of the other 4 teens could have heard him scream when she bit his hand. Did she bite his hand? Poke him in the eye? Women know instinctively how to protect their honor: screaming, shouting, slapping, spitting, slugging, and stabbing with a finger, pencil, or hat pin. Since she did not cry out or stab him, I will not believe her without a film of the event.
This is next-level victim blaming. We’ll ignore the fact that Kavanaugh’s alleged victim, Christine Blasey Ford, testified under oath that when she tried to scream, Kavanaugh and his friend turned the music up and covered her mouth.

Complicating the matter is the fact that Deuteronomy 22:23-24 doesn’t really say that. Instead of saying something like “rape is wrong, maybe don’t do it, okay?”, it says that if the rape victim is a virgin who is pledged to be married, and doesn’t scream, both the victim and the rapist should be stoned to death. Because, you know, that makes all the sense in the world.
And, in a contest with himself to see how awful he can be, Boys continued by saying:
Moreover, Matthew 18:16 clearly commands that there must be at least two witnesses to validate a charge against a person. This is a repeat of Old Testament law. Ford has no witnesses. The other man who was allegedly there, Mark Judge said, “It’s just absolutely nuts. I never saw Brett act that way.” This week, another teen that was supposed to be there Patrick J. Smyth said the incident did not happen. That should settle it; now let’s all go home, pull down the shades, and get some sleep.
So his defense of suspected rapists boils down to the adage “If a tree falls in a forest, and nobody is around to hear it, does it make a sound?”
In a display of his Christian Values™, Boys went on to blame Christine Blasey Ford for what happened to her by saying:
Lessons to be learned are many. Brett Kavanaugh should not have been drinking let alone been drunk if he was there. And why was a 15-year-old girl at such a party? Why did she go to a bedroom with two drunk or sober boys? Was she drinking? Had she been sexually promiscuous?
It’s like these people don’t even listen to the actual words Ford has said. She said she was going to the bathroom when she was attacked. She said she was pushed from behind into the bedroom by two older young men (who, mind you, were athletes that lifted weights). She said she was held down on the bed by Kavanaugh. She said she had drank one beer that night. And why the fuck is it any of your business if she had engaged in consensual sexual contact prior to being sexually assaulted?
Boys continued to apply a high level of intellectual rigor to his argument, explaining that because he’s caught his daughter in a lie before, it means that Ford might be lying as well. Because apparently to Boys, all females are the same:
I’ve had some experience with being deceived. My daughter and I were alone one afternoon when I heard something break. I yelled, “Tammy, what happened?” What had happened was my small daughter broke an expensive vase I had purchased in Athens, Greece. She pretended she did not know what happened. “It just fell off the table,” she said. I can still see her standing in the door of my office with guilt all over her face. Like most people, she wanted to blame others instead of taking the responsibility. I have told that story all over the world, but it didn’t happen that way. It wasn’t Tammy; it was Suzan. Suzan is adamant that it was her not her younger sister who was the culprit.
However, I can clearly see Tammy in my doorway. I could pass a polygraph test; but it would still not make Tammy guilty or Suzan innocent. I have been wrong about that vase for 35 years until I was proved wrong. Doesn’t matter what a test might show. Whatever the test results, “It Ain’t Necessarily So!”
Same with Judge Kavanaugh.
Yeah, totally the same thing there.
