Disclaimer: You may not need to go to school in Texas if the rapture is coming.

Sponsor: Mercola basically gave people cancer while saying he was preventing it

God of the week: Osiris (Egyptian god of the Underworld). Cliff’s notes version: The dude has a golden penis.

Guest: Dr. John Snyder! Dr. Snyder is a pediatrician in Massachusetts, where the Naturopathic Practice Act was just passed. Dr. Snyder is passionate about speaking out against Complimentary and Alternative Medicine (or CAM), where patients “double-dip” by seeing both a legitimate medical doctor and a Naturopath/Homeopath/etc. A local example for Dr. Snyder is North Hampton Wellness. This not only wastes time, but also can result in unnecessary (and often expensive) tests. We talked to Dr. Snyder about this issue and how to address it.

You can follow Dr. Snyder on Twitter at @SciPeds, and also read his writing at Science Based Medicine.

Why we love the Internet: da share z0ne! In particular: This, this, this, this, and this.

Quote of the Week: It is sometimes said that scientists are unromantic, that their passion to figure out robs the world of beauty and mystery. But is it not stirring to understand how the world actually works — that white light is made of colors, that color is the way we perceive the wavelengths of light, that transparent air reflects light, that in so doing it discriminates among the waves, and that the sky is blue for the same reason that the sunset is red? It does no harm to the romance of the sunset to know a little bit about it. (Carl Sagan)
